Geo-spatial mapping of plastic waste recycling plants in Kano Metropolis, Kano State, Nigeria

This study adopted a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach to map and assessed the geographic distribution of plastic waste recycling facilities in Kano Metropolis. Specifically, aimed at creating an inventory for Metropolis investigating its pattern. Data collected on centers were obtained from State Ministry Commerce field survey. Global Positioning System (GPS) was then utilized record coordinates (latitude longitude) each facility. The nearest neighbor analysis research area's garbage conducted using data collected. Results indicate that there Seventy-eight (78) spatially dispersed plants throughout Metropolis, observed mean distance between them about 750 m, compared expected 3030 m. recycled plastics showed weakly clustered pattern with smaller than 1 (0.22). To illustrate boundaries separating locations future detailed spatial studies businesses, it is recommended thorough mapping be done. Since most are not legally recognised, government should identify keep eye ensure environmental laws regulations being followed.
